SWFL JOURNAL
Wednesday
A very late Easter this year made it seem like season would never end. It was fun, snowbirds, but have a safe trip home.
Friday
The month of May has enveloped Sanibel like a soft breeze, making you just want to sit on your lanai and breathe deeply—which I’m doing, right at this moment.
Sunday
A plate full of fresh shrimp tacos from Fort Myers Beach seems an honorable way to celebrate today. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Tuesday
That little egret had us all under his power today, bringing traffic to a complete stop as he sauntered across Periwinkle Way. I’d swear he winked at me as if to say, “See what I can do?”
Sunday
Another Sunday, another celebration—this time for moms. Eggs benedict on the front porch, fresh bougainvillea on the table. That makes this mom very happy.
Wednesday
Downtown Fort Myers, here I come. It has been too long. Looking forward to strolling through the shops, sipping a good cup of coffee and checking out the exhibits at the Davis Art Center.
Thursday
The last of our snowbird friends are fluttering away for the summer. Minnesota, Michigan and Ohio must be feeling a bit more populous by now.
Saturday
A full moon tonight. A perfect time to walk the beach, no flashlights necessary. It’s soooo peaceful out here.
Sunday
Wow, the causeway is rockin’ today. Hot dogs, burgers, cornhole, volleyball, paddleboards—it’s all happening on those crazy causeway islands.
Tuesday
Field trip! G and I are headed to the Everglades in search of … well, I don’t know, something exotic. But please, no pythons. Let’s leave that to the experts.
Saturday
Watermelons galore at the Flea Market. What a riot watching the speed-eating contest, followed by seed spitting. Takes me back to those Midwestern childhood summers.
Thursday
Summer tennis underway. Remember a few weeks ago we were complaining how cold we were on the courts? Those were the days …
Sunday
A boating day for M and P and countless other seafaring dads on their special day. Cabbage Key was a VERY popular destination.
Friday
Adventure dining on the agenda for this evening—someplace we haven’t tried before. A lot of buzz about Cape Coral restaurants lately, so we’re heading across the river.
Monday
OMG, the Gulf was dramatic this afternoon. Whitecaps! Shorebirds hunkered down! Just a reminder that it’s storm season.
Tuesday
The shelling was beyond abundant today, thanks to last night’s stormy seas. So many shells, so little time.
