FORT SMITH - Margrett Lavern (Hargrove) Lasey, 94, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away on February 28, 2024 in her home. Margrett was born on September 25, 1929, in Franklin County, Arkansas, to Overton Bettis “O.B.” and Ruby J. (Shelby) Hargrove. Margrett grew up in Mulberry, Arkansas, and graduated from Mulberry High School in 1947. On March 6, 1948, Margrett married her brother’s best friend and the love of her life, Jack Lasey, and soon after they settled in Fort Smith. Margrett and her husband Jack were members of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fort Smith since 1951, where Margrett was active in the Pathfinder­s Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and the JOY (Just Older Youth) Group. Margrett worked for Dixie Cup and J.C.Penney, and up until the COVID pandemic, Margrett regularly attended water aerobic classes at Marvin Altman Fitness Center. Margrett never met a stranger, and she was always writing a card to a loved one, baking someone a cake, or calling a friend to check in. She was full of energy, spoke her mind, and loved to tell a joke. She cared deeply for her family and friends and had a strong faith in Jesus. Margrett is survived by her two children, Jack Terrell Lasey (Sandy) and Ruby Janet Bassham (David); her four grandchild­ren, Shelby Grubbs (Daniel), Lacy Cook (Justin), Jay Lasey (Chelsea), and Mallory Smith (Andrew); her ten great-grandchild­ren, Ali Parsons, Makayla Baker (Drew), Blake Grubbs (Sarah), Kyah Grubbs, Stella and Paige Lasey, Ruby and Hudson Cook, and Ollie and Samuel Smith; and her four great-great-grandchild­ren, Nolan and Quinn Parsons and Beckett and Lylah Grubbs. Margrett is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bettis Hargrove and his wife Pat, and her husband of 75 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fort Smith with burial to follow at New Cemetery in Mulberry. Visitation with the family will be held at 10 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral service. Pallbearer­s include Jay Lasey, Daniel Grubbs, Justin Cook, Andrew Smith, Drew Baker, and Blake Grubbs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margrett’s memory to St. Paul United Methodist Church (4100 Grand Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72904).
