First Federalsburg Frog Fest slated for Saturday
FEDERALSBURG — The Federalsburg Lions Club host “A Hoppin’ Good Time” Saturday, June 24, at its inaugural Federalsburg Frog Fest along Marshyhope Creek at the Federalsburg Marina.
The event, sponsored by Preston Automotive Group, features entertainment, rides, games craft vendors, food and a large fireworks display at night.
The frogs will be released in the Mashyhope with prizes being awarded to the fastest frogs and the slowest frog. Prizes are from $500 for first place to $50 for last place. Frogs may be purchased for $2 prior to the event from a Lions Club member and at the Federalsburg Marina. Money raised at the event benefits the community. In 2016, The Federalsburg Lions Club raised more than $12,000 at a similar event.
The Federalsburg Lions Club used the money in 2016 to make two $3,500 donations to the community. The first donation went to the Colonel Richardson Middle School Chorus for new uniforms, and the second donation went to the Caroline County Public Library Imagination Library program.
This year, the Lions Club will be making donations to the Caroline Hospice Foundation and the South Caroline Mustangs.
Frog Fest begins at 1 p.m. with the “Hoppin’ Good
Time Parade” from Main Street to the marina, which will have entertainment, rides, games craft vendors and food. A bracelet for all-day rides can be purchased from Lions Club members for $10.
The festival will have 13 food vendors serving pit beef, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, crab cakes, fried fish, Italian sausages, flavored macaroni and cheese, french fries, funnel cakes, snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn, lemonade, cakes, peanuts and deep fried candy bars and Oreos.
At 3 p.m., the Little Mr. and Miss Tadpole, and Junior Miss Tadpole contests will take place at the main stage. The Little Mr. and Miss Tadpole contests will be for children 4 to 6 years old. The Junior Miss Tadpole contest will be for girls ages 7 to 9 years old. Cash prizes will be awarded. Winners also will be able to ride in the Federalsburg Christmas Parade.

The Ashley Mitchell Acoustic Group will be performing at 6 p.m., and Glass Onion will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.
The festival culminates with a large fireworks display at dusk.
In addition to the festival, the Men For Change Organization will be hosting a car, truck and bike show from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Federalsburg Marina. Registration will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. All makes and models are welcome, including antique cars. Dash plaques will be awarded to each entry.
Entrants also are invited to participate in the Frog Fest parade at 1 p.m. Trophies and plaques will be awarded for each class during the 3 p.m. presentation. Food and refreshments will be available for sale. There also will be music. Cost per entry is $15. The car show benefits Men for Change Youth Program services.
