First Fed­er­als­burg Frog Fest slated for Satur­day

FED­ER­ALS­BURG — The Fed­er­als­burg Lions Club host “A Hop­pin’ Good Time” Satur­day, June 24, at its in­au­gu­ral Fed­er­als­burg Frog Fest along Marshy­hope Creek at the Fed­er­als­burg Ma­rina.

The event, spon­sored by Pre­ston Au­to­mo­tive Group, fea­tures en­ter­tain­ment, rides, games craft ven­dors, food and a large fire­works dis­play at night.

The frogs will be re­leased in the Mashy­hope with prizes be­ing awarded to the fastest frogs and the slow­est frog. Prizes are from $500 for first place to $50 for last place. Frogs may be pur­chased for $2 prior to the event from a Lions Club mem­ber and at the Fed­er­als­burg Ma­rina. Money raised at the event ben­e­fits the com­mu­nity. In 2016, The Fed­er­als­burg Lions Club raised more than $12,000 at a sim­i­lar event.

The Fed­er­als­burg Lions Club used the money in 2016 to make two $3,500 do­na­tions to the com­mu­nity. The first do­na­tion went to the Colonel Richard­son Mid­dle School Cho­rus for new uni­forms, and the sec­ond do­na­tion went to the Caro­line County Pub­lic Li­brary Imag­i­na­tion Li­brary pro­gram.

This year, the Lions Club will be mak­ing do­na­tions to the Caro­line Hospice Foun­da­tion and the South Caro­line Mus­tangs.

Frog Fest be­gins at 1 p.m. with the “Hop­pin’ Good

Time Pa­rade” from Main Street to the ma­rina, which will have en­ter­tain­ment, rides, games craft ven­dors and food. A bracelet for all-day rides can be pur­chased from Lions Club mem­bers for $10.

The fes­ti­val will have 13 food ven­dors serv­ing pit beef, cheese­burg­ers, hot dogs, crab cakes, fried fish, Ital­ian sausages, fla­vored mac­a­roni and cheese, french fries, fun­nel cakes, snow cones, cot­ton candy, pop­corn, lemon­ade, cakes, peanuts and deep fried candy bars and Oreos.

At 3 p.m., the Lit­tle Mr. and Miss Tad­pole, and Ju­nior Miss Tad­pole con­tests will take place at the main stage. The Lit­tle Mr. and Miss Tad­pole con­tests will be for chil­dren 4 to 6 years old. The Ju­nior Miss Tad­pole con­test will be for girls ages 7 to 9 years old. Cash prizes will be awarded. Winners also will be able to ride in the Fed­er­als­burg Christ­mas Pa­rade.

The Ash­ley Mitchell Acous­tic Group will be per­form­ing at 6 p.m., and Glass Onion will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

The fes­ti­val cul­mi­nates with a large fire­works dis­play at dusk.

In ad­di­tion to the fes­ti­val, the Men For Change Or­ga­ni­za­tion will be host­ing a car, truck and bike show from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Satur­day at the Fed­er­als­burg Ma­rina. Regis­tra­tion will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. All makes and mod­els are wel­come, in­clud­ing an­tique cars. Dash plaques will be awarded to each en­try.

En­trants also are in­vited to par­tic­i­pate in the Frog Fest pa­rade at 1 p.m. Tro­phies and plaques will be awarded for each class dur­ing the 3 p.m. pre­sen­ta­tion. Food and re­fresh­ments will be avail­able for sale. There also will be mu­sic. Cost per en­try is $15. The car show ben­e­fits Men for Change Youth Pro­gram ser­vices.
