Fearins hon­ored for 50 years ac­tive ser­vice

— The Pre­ston Vol­un­teer Fire Com­pany hon­ored its mem­bers at the com­pany’s an­nual ban­quet Satur­day, Feb. 17.

Pres­i­dent Rus­sell Dukes, as well as the state of­fi­cials, were proud to call up Ron­nie Fearins for reach­ing 50 years of ac­tive ser vice.

Pres­i­dent Rus­sell Dukes, as well as the state of­fi­cials, were proud to call up Ron­nie Fearins for reach­ing 50 years of ac­tive ser­vice.

Dukes said Fearins joins only two other mem­bers of the PVFC to ever re­ceive this ac­com­plish­ment. He joins Ja­cob Gar­vey and Don­ald Wil­loughby. He said Fearins has and al­ways will be a great as­set to the com­pany.

“With hav­ing been Chief to in charge of the ways and means Mr. Fearins has gone above and be­yond for this com­pany, al­ways com­ing up with ideas and funds to sup­port the com­pany,” said PVFC mem­ber Bryan Cheezum. “If it were not for Mr. Fearins, ef­forts in fundrais­ing our cur­rent fire­house would have never been paid for within a 10 year span. Al­ways com­ing up with our fi­nan­cial needs and five-, 10-, 15- and even 20-year plans and goals to hit Mr Fearins al­ways comes through.”

Not only did he re­ceive a plaque to be hung in the fire com­pany’s tro­phy room, Fearins was awarded a gov­er­nor’s ci­ta­tion, and fire­fighter of the year in recog­ni­tion of 50 con­tin­u­ous ac­tive years serv­ing Pre­ston VFC.

“Mr. Ron­nie is the true def­i­ni­tion of fire­fighter of the year,”said Chief Bryan Mil­li­gan.

The ban­quet opened with Pre­ston Town Com­mis­sioner Doug Van­Der veer rec­og­niz­ing the Pre­ston Vol­un­teer Fire

Com­pany for 91 years of ser­vice, and mak­ing the town’s an­nual do­na­tion to the com­pany.

Cheezum re­ceived the Pres­i­dents awards in recog­ni­tion of his fundrais­ing events this past year. Mil­li­gan gave his an­nual fire re­port on how mem­bers re­sponded to 295 calls in Pre­ston and sur­round­ing neigh­bors. Pre­ston cov­ers about 53 square miles with more than 1,500 in pop­u­la­tion.

The top re­spon­ders were rec­og­nized with number one be­ing Rus­sell Dukes, two Cody Ben­nett and three Troy Plutschak.

Sen. Ad­die Eckardt, R-37-Mid-Shore; Del. Chris Adams, R-37B-Wi­comico; and Del. Johnny Mautz, R-37B-Tal­bot; at­tended the ban­quet and pre­sented five-year ser vice award ci­ta­tions to Cody Ben­nett, Chris Henry, David Wiel­gosz, Marie Wiel­gosz, Tommy Tol­son and Colton Davis; 25 years to Elaine Boyd; 35 years to Butch Frase; 40 years to David Wright; and 55 years to Denny Steven­son and J.C. Bate­man with 55 years.

Am­bu­lance cap­tain Rob­bie Phillips gave his an­nual re­port of calls and awarded all Ems Providers with new Pre­ston EMS shirts.

Jes­sica Marine, and Julie Frase daugh­ters of life mem­ber Butch Frase spoke on be­half of the Frase fam­ily about their ear­lier 2017 house fire that de­stroyed the Frase home. Both Marine and Frase thanked the mem­bers as well as sur­round­ing com­pa­nies who jumped into fundrais­ing ef­forts for the Frase fam­ily.

Mr and Mrs Butch Frase pre­sented the fire com­pany with an ap­pre­ci­a­tion award as well as a do­na­tion as a to­ken of their ap­pre­ci­a­tion. The awards cer­e­mony ended with Bob Wahl read­ing the fire­men prayer.
