Fed­er­als­burg Lions Club hosts an­nual Frog Fest

FED­ER­ALS­BURG — More than 3,000 rub­ber frogs were pur­chased for the an­nual Fed­er­als­burg Lions Club Frog Fest Sat­ur­day, July 30, at the Fed­er­als­burg Ma­rina.

The or­ga­ni­za­tion will use the money raised from Frog Fest for a do­na­tion to the Cham­bers Park Part­ners to the re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of Cham­bers Park. Guests at the Frog Fest pur­chased the rub­ber frogs for a chance at win­ning sev­eral prizes.

The frogs were re­leased in Mashy­hope Creek with prizes be­ing awarded to the fastest frogs and the slow­est frog. Prizes are from $500 for first place to $50 for sev­enth place. First place went to Jill Tay­lor, sec­ond place Don Sewell, third place Bill Beall, fourth place Melvyn Miller, fifth place Ryan McCormick, sixth place Philom­ena Cir­illo and sev­enth place Diana Matthews.

Last year, the or­ga­ni­za­tion made donations of $3,600 to Caro­line Hos­pice and South Caro­line Mus­tangs foot­ball and cheer or­ga­ni­za­tion.

The event, spon­sored by Pre­ston Au­to­mo­tive Group, fea­tured a pa­rade, en­ter­tain­ment, rides, games craft ven­dors, food and a large fire­works dis­play at night.

The “Leap­ing into Sum­mer” pa­rade on Main Street opened the event. The best ap­pear­ing fire com­pany was Hur­lock Vol­un­teer Fire Com­pany. The best march­ing group went to the South Caro­line Mus­tang Cheer­lead­ers with Youth for Change com­ing in sec­ond. The best dec­o­rated golf cart was Brooke Mills with the Shi­flett fam­ily com­ing in sec­ond. The best walk­ing or rid­ing float went to Fron­tier Girls Troop 350. Jim Phelps won best clas­sic car with Jack Mills com­ing in sec­ond. The best an­tique trac­tor went to Der­rick Weiss.

At the ma­rina, young­ster com­peted in the Lit­tle Miss/ Mr. Tad­pole and Ju­nior Miss Frog Fest pageants. So­phie Hub­bard won the Ju­nior Miss crown with Ella Downie com­ing in sec­ond. Lit­tle Miss Tad­pole crown went to Eri­ann Carr with Kor­rine Tull com­ing in sec­ond. The Lit­tle Mr. Tad­pole crown went to Elias Wal­ters with Pay­ton Fox com­ing in sec­ond.

Af­ter the frog race, Mike Hines per­formed. His con­cert was spon­sored by Pre­ston Au­to­mo­tive Group.

The fes­ti­val cul­mi­nated with a large fire­works dis­play spon­sored by Pre­ston Au­to­mo­tive Group.
