Caro­line Sum­merfest Ino­for­ma­tion

— Caro­line Sum­merfest will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. on Fri­day, Aug. 17, and from 2 to 9 p.m. Satur­day, Aug. 18, in down­town Den­ton.

The full per­for­mance sched­ule for this year’s Caro­line Sum­merfest in­cludes nearly 30 hours of en­ter­tain­ment on four stages. The event also fea­tures many non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tions, crafts, food, fire­works and more. For the event sched­ule, see page 6. For the event map, see page 9.

— The chal­lenge to any long-stand­ing event is keep­ing it fresh and rel­e­vant. As Caro­line Sum­merfest cel­e­brates its 30th an­niver­sary year, event plan­ners will launch a fourth per­for­mance stage and its first in­door one through a spe­cial re­la­tion­ship with a down­town busi­ness, the Mar­ket Street Pub­lic House.

“One of our event goals has been to en­gage our down­town busi­nesses in a more sig­nif­i­cant way, so that they can lever­age the in­creased foot traf­fic in the down­town dur­ing the fes­ti­val,” said Sue Sim­mons, Caro­line Sum­merfest event co­or­di­na­tor. “In the begin­ning, it wasn’t un­com­mon for busi­nesses to close dur­ing the event, but through­out the years, that has changed. Busi­nesses are now tak­ing the op­por­tu­nity to show­case their busi­nesses dur­ing Sum­merfest. This new stage venue is a pro­gres­sion of that vi­sion.”

The Acous­tic Show­case Stage will fea­ture eight hours of en­ter­tain­ment over the course of the two-day fes­ti­val, Fri­day, Aug. 17, and Satur­day, Aug. 18, and will be in the side room of the restau­rant at 200 Mar­ket St. Fes­ti­val-go­ers can en­joy per­for­mances from 7 to 9:45 p.m. Fri­day and 4 to 8:50 p.m. Satur­day. The stage is spon­sored by Na­tional Prop­erty In­spec­tions.

Per­for­mance high­lights will in­clude:

• Penny Pis­telero, an alt/coun­try band from Eas­ton that pushes stru­ments, lap steel and vo­cals. mu­sic con­ven­tions with brass in- The band will per­form an acous­tic set from 7:30 to 7:50 p.m. Fri­day at the pub. A full band per­for­mance will take place ear­lier in the day, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., on the Com­cast and Choice One Ur­gent Care Main Stage on the west lawn of the Court­house Green.

• River & Rhodes, fea­tur­ing Ash­ley Mitchell and her hus­band, Donny Mar­vel, per­form­ing acous­tic in­die orig­i­nals, from 8:30 to 8:50 p.m. Fri­day at the pub and ear­lier, from 7 to 8 p.m., on the Com­cast and Choice One Ur­gent Care Main Stage.

• Ma­gi­cian Christophe Je­len­ski at the Pub from 9 to 9:20 p.m. Fri­day and ear­lier, from 8 to 8:30 p.m., on the Prov­i­dent Bank Court­house Stage.

• Clas­si­cal gui­tarist Vic­to­ria Tar­but­ton from 5 to 5:20 p.m. Satur­day at the pub and ear­lier, from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m., on the VNA of Mary­land Court­house Stage.

• Jeff Wash­ing­ton un­plugged from 4:30 to 4:50 p.m. Satur­day at the pub and later, from 6 to 7:15 p.m., on the R&M Per­for­mance & Com­cast Main Stage.
