Franchot honors Bullock’s Deli
DENTON — Among the freshly made food and the community tables, Comptroller Peter Franchot presented the Bullocks family with a proclamation Friday, Aug. 17, in recognition for owning Bullock’s Deli in Denton for 42 years.
Franchot honored Rick Bullock, who began the deli, and his daughter Michele Bullock Amalfitano, who runs deli, and his son Richie during a ceremony with local and state dignitaries.
“Lots of the state’s prosperity is due to establishments just like Bullock’s Deli,” Franchot said. “They are a family-owned successful enterprise with delicious food and great service.
“I like the atmosphere and family spirit here,” he said. “There are nice tables, patrons can sit and relax while getting great food and great service.”
Franchot called Bullock’s Deli a one-stop shop because patrons can get food, gas, fishing licenses, boating stickers, beer and wine.
“Your excellent service to customers reflects the care and commitment displayed by everyone through the market,” he said.
Amalfitano said she is proud to see her family honored.
“It means a lot that my dad got recognized for all of his hard work,” she said. “Him and my mom have given so much to the deli, to the community and our family. This is what they love. I’m proud of them. We could not do this without a great staff.”
Denton Mayor Abigail McNinch was joined at the ceremony by a host of local and state dignitaries, including Caroline County commissioners Larry Porter, Wilbur Levengood and Dan Franklin, Caroline County Sheriff Randy Bounds, state Del. Jeff Ghrist, R-36-Caroline, and Caroline Register of Wills Jim Phelps.
“Bullock’s is truly the cornerstone of Denton,” McNinch said. “Kids come here after school. People come for lunch. There is always a line. It is a fantastic establishment.”
Porter, who said he eats a meal at Bullock’s almost every day, credits the deli for supporting local organizations.
“Any sports team, any organization that tries to raise money, you will see Bullock’s name on it because they are incredibly generous with their money and their public support,” he said.
Bullock’s Deli is located at 422 N. Sixth Street in Denton. The deli will host the The seventh annual BBQ Cookout for Leukemia Awareness Cruise in and Car Show at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. For more information about the car show, visit the Bullock’s Deli Facebook page, call 410-479-0270 or
