Pub­lic safety: Drug bust, one false alarm

Man ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of possessing meth for sale; the­ater evac­u­ated Sun­day on false alarm of gas leak.

Around 10 a.m. Monday, a Water­front/Parks Ranger with the Eureka Po­lice Depart­ment’s Com­mu­nity Safety En­hance­ment

Team con­tacted 52-year-old Todd Newby of Eureka near the pub­lic re­strooms on Ma­rina Way.

Newby had a war­rant for his ar­rest and was taken into cus­tody. Dur­ing the search of his per­son, Newby was found to be in pos­ses­sion of 12 grams of metham­phetamine in var­i­ous pack­ag­ing and other items con­sis­tent with the sale of metham­phetamine.

Newby was booked into the Hum­boldt County jail on his war­rant and on sus­pi­cion of pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled sub­stance for sale.
