Men’s college basketball: Redwoods 83, Modesto 72

Thomas Nelson scored 25 of his 29 points in the second-half to lead Redwoods to an openinground win over Modesto, Thursday night at the John Hogue Memorial tournament at Mendocino College in Ukiah.

Drew Gillette scored 17 points for Redwoods (6-3) in the win while Donald Willis poured in 13 and Bradley Willis, 11. Zac Claus added 10 points.

Redwoods will face Sacramento City College Friday evening in the tournament’s semifinal-round.
