Walk, run or skate before the big meal
There’s plenty to do on Thanksgiving Day for those who’d like to get out before sitting down for turkey and all the fixings. Here are some of the things planned for Thursday:
Morning walk
Friends of the Arcata Marsh will host its 20th annual “Thanksgiving Morning Meander” Thursday. Jenny Hanson and Alex Stillman will lead a 90-minute walk around the marsh starting at 10 a.m. Participants will meet on the porch of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street. (The building will be closed for the holiday.) For more information, call 707-826-2359.
Fleet blessing
The Trinidad fishing community invites everyone to the 24th annual “Blessing of the Fleet” Thursday at 10 a.m. at the harbor overlook on the corner of Trinity and Edwards streets in Trinidad. This family friendly event is an opportunity to come together and bless fishermen, fishing families and the Coast Guard for their efforts. Axel Lindgren III and his family will give a traditional Native blessing followed by a blessing from Officiant Dana Hope. Trinidad Rancheria will provide free coffee, hot chocolate and snacks. Music is by DJ Kevin Held. In case of rain or high winds, the ceremony will be moving indoors to Trinidad Town Hall. For more information, call Susan Rotwein at 707-798-0630.
Turkey Trot
The annual three-mile Jogg’n Shoppe “Turkey Trot” will take place Thursday starting and ending at the Old Town Gazebo, between Second and F streets in Eureka. Pre-registration can be done at the Jogg’n Shoppe (1090 G St., Arcata). Day-of registration starts at 7:30 a.m. outside of Old Town Coffee and Chocolates, 211 F St. in Eureka, and the race begins at 9 a.m. The cost is $10, or $20 with an event T-shirt.
