‘Winter Farmers Market’ begins in Arcata this weekend

-

The North Coast Growers’ Association’s “Winter Farmers Market” begins Saturday0 on the Arcata Plaza and continues through March 28.

Open rain or shine every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Arcata Plaza, the market offers a consistent and bountiful source of farm-fresh, GMO-free food, plants and fiber, all produced in Humboldt County. This season offers an abundance of fresh leafy greens, winter squash, onions and leeks, brassicas, pears and apples. Mushrooms, artichokes, carrots and potatoes are also available as well as ultra-seasonal specialty items like walnuts, guavas, persimmons and chestnuts. Humanely raised meats, fresh cheese, wine, honey, hot sauce and olive oil can also be found in abundance, along with hand-spun wool, wreaths, nursery plants and winter garden plant starts. Winter shoppers can also peruse a wide selection of hand-crafted artisanal items like goat milk soap and beeswax candles.

Also, local prepared food vendors are available at every market with treats — from bread and pastries to vegan soups and woodfired pizza.

The North Coast Growers’ Association welcomes all community members with CalFresh EBT cards to visit at the farmers market and receive extra Market Match bucks to spend on fresh produce at market. Interested customers can visit the info booth to learn more about CalFresh and Market Match, or even receive help applying for CalFresh.

Don’t forget to bring reusable shopping bags.
