ART DISPLAY Eureka: Peter Zappel is showing a sculpture series featuring 30 works through Friday at Connection, 334 F St., Eureka. These are functional mixed-media pieces made in his Table Bluff studio. Also, the Old Town Art Gallery in Eureka is exhibiting his large-format Ilfochrome photos. MARSH TOUR Arcata: Friends of the Arcata Marsh is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary Saturday at 2p.m. Meet leader Elliott Dabill at the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a two-hour walk focusing on the ecology of the marsh. Loaner binoculars are available with a photo ID. For more information, call 707-8262359.

Arcata: The Redwood Region Audubon Society is sponsoring a free public field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday. Bring binoculars for birding and meet leader Michael Morris in the parking lot at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata at 8:30a.m., rain or shine. The trip ends around 11a.m.

TRAIL WORKDAY
Eureka: The Volunteer Trail Stewards are holding a trail workday Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m. along the Eureka Wharf Trail from C to Del Norte streets. Tasks involve picking up litter, weeding or spreading bark chips. There will be snacks and beverages afterward. Everyone will meet at the Wharfinger Building parking lot at 9 a.m., rain or shine. Gloves and some tools are provided, or bring your own. Volunteer work days are held on the
