Capturing surprising events
Photographer is featured artist at Ferndale Arts Gallery
Photographer Dan Tubbs is the featured artist of the month at the Ferndale Arts Gallery, 580 Main St. in Ferndale.
Tubbs and his wife moved to Ferndale in 2001. Prior to that, he worked for 38 years in the offset printing and graphic design industry.
He has always had a love of photography and spent over 50 years shooting and processing film. In 2003, he embraced the age of digital photography and has taken off as a local artist.
He has been a member of Ferndale’s gallery for several years.
Tubbs enjoys capturing surprising events in nature such as a mother swallow teaching her youngsters how to catch insects or a small green tree frog peering from the petals of a rose.
He also appreciates the area’s redwood forests and rugged coastline. The prospect of finding these scenes keeps him spending endless hours in nature with his camera. He also loves creating portrait and product images.
Tubbs’ photographs have been featured in Shutterbug Magazine and San Francisco Magazine as well as on the cover of Urge, the weekly entertainment section of the TimesStandard.
In 2019, Tubbs started the Ferndale Photography Group for local photographers interested in sharing their experiences and skills with new aspiring photographers.
His prints, both framed and unframed, as well as greeting cards and his books, are available at Ferndale Arts Gallery. For more information, call 707786-9634 or visit www. ferndalearts.com.
