Fortuna library fundraiser set for March 14
The annual Friends of the Fortuna Library fundraiser is almost as well know for the chicken cacciatore and polenta dinner as it is for the large and varied selection of books available for sale.
Fortuna Library Day is planned for Saturday, March 14, and it takes place at the Fortuna Veteran’s Memorial building on Main Street. Books from a variety of genres will be available, as well as DVDs and other publications.
“The Friends of the Fortuna Library appreciates the community’s support for the annual book sale and dinner,” said organization president Amy Conley. “The money raised supports the library in many ways, making possible the purchase of new books and programs such as storytelling,” she added.
Reservations are needed to enjoy the chicken cacciatore and polenta dinner, prepared every year by Fortuna resident Milt Conley and crew. To make reservations, call 707-725-2070 or stop by the Fortuna Library at 14th and N streets. The dinner can be enjoyed on site or can be picked up to go. The dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 14.
The event has been described as a book party for the entire city of Fortuna. “This book sale is such a great thing for the community,” said Friends of the Fortuna Library past president Carol Kinser. “So many people attending say they look forward to it and get their reading for the year,” she added.
Every year, Friends of the Fortuna Library donates approximately $10,000 of new books, magazine and newspaper subscriptions, CDs, and materials and supplies, as well as sponsors programs including storytime, family literacy night, and the summer reading program.
