This week’s forecast: Relatively dry, warm
Humboldt County’s forecast for the week looks to be fairly uneventful, a local meteorologist said Friday.
“Sunday there might be a few sprinkles over the inland areas. Even that is looking pretty marginal,” said Matthew Kidwell of the National Weather Service Eureka office. “Going into next week is looking relatively dry.”
The week will see the weather progressively warming.
Coastal areas such as Eureka should see daytime temperatures in the 50s, potentially hitting the 60s later in the week. Overnight lows, Kidwell said, could be in the low 30s, especially Monday and Tuesday, noting residents “could see some frost around.”
Inland areas will be a bit warmer, he said, noting Willow Creek in the eastern portion of the county could reach into the 70s. The Garberville area will also see warmer weather in the high 60s and possibly low 70s.
He said by Friday there is a slight chance of rain as well as a dip in temperatures.
The marine forecast is relatively mild as well this week, Kidwell said.
“The winds will be light on Sunday,” he said. “There will be a moderate swell — about 6 feet at 11 seconds, not a real significant swell. But Monday, the northerly winds will start to pick back up in the afternoon —15 to 20 knots. That will persist into Tuesday and Wednesday.”
He added it could be the first taste of summer.
“As far as the coast is concerned, (it’s a) more summerlike pattern with northerly winds and fairly warm temperatures,” Kidwell said.
