TEAM FUNDRAISER
Eureka: The Visiting Angels Walk To End Alzheimer’s Team is holding a “Meet Me At Applebee’s” fundraiser Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. The public is invited to support team. Applebee’s Gill and Bar will donate 15% of all sales to the fundraiser, which is raising funds to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Applebee’s is located at 2846 Broadway.

TREE PROJECT
Eureka: Keep Eureka Beautiful volunteers will be celebrating California Arbor Week and the Eureka Cultural Arts District tree project with a tree planting at Fourth and F streets on Wednesday at noon outside of Coast Central Credit Union with Eureka Mayor Susan Seaman. California Arbor Week runs from March 7 to 14. Keep Eureka Beautiful members presented a declaration for California Arbor Week to the Eureka City Council on March 3 and will do the same this Tuesday at the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors at 9a.m. Keep Eureka Beautiful is an all-volunteer citizen group that has planted over 1,000 trees in Eureka.

GROWING ROSES
Eureka: On Thursday at the regular meeting of the Humboldt Rose Society, President Evan Duthaler will discuss water catchment systems. The meeting is open to the public and all are invited. Water catchment, also known as water harvesting, is the process of collecting and storing rainwater. Water catchment systems collect water from rain gutters and use pipes to direct it to a storing drum, barrel or cistern. The meeting is at Christ Episcopal Church in the Lewis Room, at 15th and H streets, at 7p.m. Parking is available at 14th and G streets. There are refreshments and door prizes at the meeting, as well as longtime rose growers on hand with helpful information. GROWING VIOLETS Fortuna:
The Humboldt County African Violet Society will hold its monthly meeting Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Francis’ Episcopal Church, 16th and L streets. The program will be “Preventing and Treating Mildew in African Violets.” Coffee and refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend. For more information, call Kris at 707-725-5479.
WEAVING TUTORIAL
Eureka: The Humboldt Handweavers and Spinners Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wharfinger Building, No. 1 Marina Way. Stark will be teaching a simple God’s Eye weave tutorial. Attendees will be given two small hoops and paper cordage to make two God’s Eye designs and can take home their creation to finish it as a basket if they choose. Meetings are free to the public and held on the second Thursday of the month in the Bay Room.

Eureka: Food for People’s preserving class, scheduled for Thursday, has been canceled due to recent flooding at Food for People’s main building.
PIONEERS MEET
Eureka: The Society of Humboldt County Pioneers will meet at noon Friday at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road. There will be a potluck luncheon, a program and a short business meeting. Tom Hart, co-owner of Humboldt Cider Company and researcher of pioneer Humboldt County apple hybridizer and grower Albert Etter, will speak about Etter’s activities, his apple varieties and the current state of apples and cider. Guests are welcome. Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for Food for People and a potluck dish to share. Make sure to label any dishes that comply with dietary issues such as gluten or dairy allergies. Coffee and tea will be provided. OPEN HOUSE
Ferndale: An “Open House Social Celebrating the 53rd anniversary of Portuguese Immigrant Week” is slated for Saturday, March 14, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Ferndale Portuguese Hall. The event is sponsored by the Portuguese Fraternal Society of America’s local councils of Eureka, Arcata and Ferndale. Finger foods and desserts of Portuguese culture, including filhos, will be available. A charity drive for the Forgotten Initiative will be held at the event as well.

Eureka: Dennis Mayo of McKinleyville, representing Cowboys for Trump, will be the guest speaker for the Humboldt Republican Women on March 19 at the Red Lion Inn, 1929Fourth St. Mayo was recently in Washington, D.C. attending the Conservative Political Action Committee annual meeting. Mayo will present a program on the people he interviewed, spoke to and hear from, including President Donald Trump.
