The following was compiled from information provided by the Eureka Police Department:

PEDESTRIAN FATALLY STRUCK: Around 11:45 p.m. Saturday officers were called to the 2100 block of Broadway for a report of a vehicle striking two pedestrians, one of whom was an infant in a stroller.

When officers arrived, they found a woman down in the roadway and an infant unharmed still in the stroller. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The woman was identified as Kelsey Diffin, 25, of Eureka.

The driver remained on the scene and took a field sobriety test. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the incident and no arrests were made.

Diffin was reportedly pushing the stroller across Broadway some distance from the nearest crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle was traveling north on Broadway and did not see Diffin and the stroller approaching and was unable to avoid the crash.

The investigation is ongoing. The Eureka police ask anyone with information about the incident to call Sergeant Gary Whitmer at 707-441-4306.
