Sheiring named CCAA POTW

Humboldt State softball’s Lexee Sheiring was named the CCAA Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday. Sheiring played a major role for Humboldt (7-16, 6-14) as the Lumberjack­s captured their first series win of the season, a 3-1 weekend at Cal State East Bay. Sheiring hit .545 while posting a 1.182 slugging percentage and .583 on-base percentage. At pitcher Sheiring logged all three of the ‘Jacks’ wins over the weekend.

Sheiring started her weekend going 2-for-3 while driving in two runs and scoring a run. She hit a home run in HSU’s 16-0 (5) game two victory this past Friday in Hayward. The junior pitched a 3-hit complete game 5-inning shutout while while striking out a season high six batters.

On Saturday in the first game of the afternoon’s doublehead­er, Sheiring went two-for-three while scoring two runs and hit a grand slam home run in HSU’s 17-1 (5) victory. She pitched another three-hit complete game while giving up three hits a run, striking out three and walking two.

In the series finale, Sheiring pitched the final 5.1 innings of relief in HSU’s 9-8 extra-inning victory as he earned her third win of the weekend. She went 2-for-5 at the plate and drove in Micaela Harris on a bottom of the 9th-inning walk-off RBI single.

For the weekend, Sheiring went 6-for-11 at the plate, driving

in seven runs and scoring four runs. She hit two home runs and had a double for 13 total bases. Sheiring went 3-0 in her three appearance­s while striking out 11 in 15.1 innings. Her ERA was 3.52 with two complete games including a shutout.

Harris 12th in nation

Humboldt State softball’s Micaela Harris is 12th in the nation in NCAA Division II in stolen bases and 24th in the nation in stolen bases per game. Harris is tied for second in the CCAA in stolen bases.

Harris is 18-for-18 on stolen bases attempts. She averaging 0.78 stolen bases per game in Humboldt’s first 23 games. As a team, HSU has stolen 37 bases on 43 attempts.

Senior softball signups

The Humboldt Senior Softball Associatio­n is open for registrati­on for the 2020 season. The wood-bat, co-ed league for players 60-years and older plays its games at the Samoa softball fields. Games begin the second week of May and run through the second week of August. A 50-60 year-old division is open as well. Contact Kelly at (707) 601-7117 for more informatio­n.
