New­som al­ters safety net, ‘pub­lic’ meet­ings

The fol­low­ing is a press re­lease from the of­fice of Gov. Gavin New­som:

Gov. Gavin New­som is­sued an ex­ec­u­tive or­der Wed­nes­day waiv­ing el­i­gi­bil­ity re-de­ter­mi­na­tions for 90 days for Cal­i­for­ni­ans who par­tic­i­pate in:

• Medi-Cal health cov­er­age

• CalFresh food as­sis­tance

• CalWORKS

• Cash As­sis­tance for Im­mi­grants; and

• In-Home Sup­port­ive Ser­vices

The change will al­low cur­rent re­cip­i­ents of these safety net pro­grams to con­tinue re­ceiv­ing them with­out in­ter­rup­tion dur­ing the COVID-19 out­break.

The ex­ec­u­tive or­der also waives the re­quire­ments of the Ba­gley-Keene Act and the Brown Act ex­pressly or im­pliedly re­quir­ing the phys­i­cal pres­ence of mem­bers, the clerk or other per­son­nel of the body, or of the pub­lic as a con­di­tion of par­tic­i­pa­tion in or quo­rum for a pub­lic meet­ing. Lo­cal leg­isla­tive or state bod­ies that hold a meet­ing via tele­con­fer­enc­ing and al­low mem­bers of the pub­lic to ob­serve and ad­dress the meet­ing tele­phon­i­cally or other­wise elec­tron­i­cally con­sis­tent with the ex­ec­u­tive or­der will have ful­filled any re­quire­ment that their meet­ing be “pub­lic.”
