Man arrested after vehicle, foot pursuit

Compiled from a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office release:

At about 7 p.m. Tuesday, an off-duty Eureka Police Department officer contacted the sheriff’s office to report seeing a known stolen vehicle parked on the 1400 block of School Avenue in McKinleyvi­lle.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to School Avenue and located the vehicle parked and occupied by a man, later identified as 27-year-old Little Eagle

Moon. When deputies attempted to contact Moon, he fled in the vehicle, leading deputies on a brief pursuit before colliding with another vehicle on Central Avenue. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured in the collision.

Moon then fled on foot. Deputies pursued and arrested him a short time later.

During a search of the stolen vehicle, deputies found a loaded firearm, ammunition and a police scanner.

Moon was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. He was then booked into the Humboldt County jail on multiple felony warrants for being a felon in possession of a firearm and violating probation, and on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading a peace officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, sale of ammunition to a minor, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, resisting arrest, intercepti­ng a police radio, revocation of probation, driving on a suspended license, false evidence of registrati­on, possession of marijuana by a driver, and failure to stop at a stop sign.
