Chipotle opens near Vigo and Broadway
A new Chipotle near the corner of Vigo Street and Broadway in Eureka is now open for curbside pickup, drive-thru and takeout.
The Chipotle had its grand opening Thursday and was packed with customers waiting to get food during lunchtime. The restaurant had tape on the floor to ensure customers were at least six feet apart to help curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, which causes the COVID-19 infectious disease.
Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has advised wearing gloves and face coverings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Chipotle employees weren’t wearing either Thursday.
The restaurant allows online orders, but the system was significantly backed up, leading to a parking lot packed with cars.
Nearby In-N-Out opted not to open as it originally planned to because of the COVID-19 pandemic and has not set a date when it will open.
“The distance of Eureka from our other locations will require an increased amount of travel for our current Associates, and there will be a great deal of hands-on training taking place for the new team of Associates when we do open,” Denny Warnick, In-N-Out’s vice president of operations, said in an interview earlier this month. “Neither of these seem appropriate in our current circumstances.”
The opening of nearby Mod Pizza, which was set to open this month, has been delayed for at least 60 days, according to an email from the company’s public relations director, Charlotte Wayte.
The franchisee was unavailable for further comment before publication time.
