Music festival holds second digital concert

-

This Saturday, the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival — which regularly brings concerts to Humboldt County — will present its second “Digital Concert,” featuring musical performances by classical musicians streaming live from Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey and California.

The concert will begin at 5 p.m., and will be hosted on the Zoom video meeting platform. Guests are required to RSVP online, and invited to make a donation to support this series and the musicians.

The concert will be managed by festival director Ian Scarfe, and feature stories and musical performances by festival musicians tuning in from their homes across the United States. The featured musicians will be violist James Keene from New Brunswick, New Jersey, soprano Jamie-Rose Guarrine and cellist Karl Knapp from Amherst, Massachusetts, and cellist Joseph Howe and pianist Madoka Asari from Boulder, Colorado.

The program will feature a diverse selection of classical music, including lush impressionist works by Faure, Ravel and VillaLobos performed by Howe and Asari, the virtuosic “Sonata for Solo Violin” by Bela Bartok performed by Keene, and songs and opera arias arranged for cello and soprano by Knapp and Guarrine.

Knapp and Guarrine, a husband and wife duo who appeared at TACMF in the summers of 2019 and 2017, will also be offering a preview of their upcoming album “Transparent Boundaries: Songs set to the words of Dickinson, Whitman, and Emerson”.

The Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival is expanding its mission, going beyond its traditional role of bringing world-class music to communities in and around Northern California, to offering online performances that can be enjoyed by anyone, anywhere. The festival is also dedicated to helping freelance musicians and other performing artists whose careers have been devastated by the current pandemic.

To attend this concert, guests must RSVP using an online form on the festival website, at www.TrinityAlpsCMF.org.

Attendees are invited to make a contribution in any way they choose. Direct payments should go directly to Scarfe via Venmo (@iscarfe) or PayPal (iscarfe@gmail.com, or PayPal.me/IanScarfe). Guests can also make tax-deductible contributions or mail a check by following instructions on the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival website (www.TrinityAlpsCMF.org/donate).
