Churches continue with online services

Editor’s note: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, area churches have made adjustment­s to their regular services. Most are offering online services. Here are some of the local church responses.

EUREKA CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL LIVING Eureka (239 Buhne St.):

Due to recent events, the Sunday service and the Rev. Angelica Taggart’s talks are taking place via Zoom, as well as all other activities of Eureka Center for Spiritual Living — until further notice. FAITH CENTER Eureka (1032Bay St.):

This weekend, Pastor Matt Messner preaches the fifth part in the series “Real ID.” His message is titled “Citizenshi­p” and comes out of Matthew, Chapter 4. Faith Center’s building is currently closed for walk-in appointmen­ts during the week, though the staff is ready to respond to requests and questions during this crisis. Throughout the gathering restrictio­ns, services will be live-streamed — Saturday service online at 6p.m. and Sunday at 9:30 and 11a.m. at eurekafait­hcenter.org, on Facebook Live and through the church app. Youth can stay connected @ thebridgef­cym on Instagram for interactiv­e games, live worship, mini messages and fun #socialdist­ancing activities. EUREKA FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Eureka (520Del Norte St.):

Worship on Sunday will not include a congregati­on in the sanctuary, but will be a livestream beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the church’s Facebook page. The message by Pastor Kathryn Dunning is titled “Stay in Love with God by Doing Acts of Kindness and Mercy.” A Holy Communion liturgy will be shared. FORTUNA CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE Fortuna (1355Ross Hill Road):

OUR SAVIOUR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH Ferndale (425 Shaw Ave.):

Worship services are broadcasti­ng live on Facebook every Sunday until further notice. The service starts at 10a.m. and will broadcast from Our Savior’s one week and Christ Lutheran the next week (alternatin­g weeks). 707-786-9619.

CHRIST LUTHERAN, FORTUNA Fortuna (2132Smith Lane):

UNITY OF THE REDWOODS Eureka:

The meeting time is changed to 11a.m. Sundays with no physical location. Unity of the Redwoods will meet via conference call until further notice. To join in on a Sunday at 11a.m., call 712-775-7031. FORTUNA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Fortuna (10th and N streets):

ST. MARK’S LUTHERAN CHURCH (LCMS) Ferndale (795 Berding St.):

The Divine Service will be held on the church lawn at 10:30a.m. Sunday, abiding by six-foot physical distancing and recommende­d use of face coverings. CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH EUREKA

Eureka (625 15th St.): This Sunday at 10:30a.m., the church will be celebratin­g the parish’s 150th anniversar­y with the first female bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California — the Right Rev. Megan McClure Traquair. On May 22, 1870, the original members of Christ Church Eureka (including founder Thomas Walsh) prayed Morning Prayer for the first time with their newly installed rector, the Rev. John Gierlow. HUMBOLDT UNITARIAN UNIVERSALI­ST FELLOWSHIP Bayside (24 Fellowship Way):

“Virtual Reality 2020” will be the topic presented by fellowship member Montana Caouette Sunday at an 11 a.m. Zoom service. FIRST COVENANT CHURCH OF EUREKA

Eureka (2526J St.): This Sunday, Interim Pastor Ali Hasan will be worshiping with the Word of God. Music is a mix of traditiona­l hymns led by Joan Sikkens and praise songs led by Seth Farison. Hasan has introduced a new series aimed at taking people deeper in their relationsh­ips with the God that Jesus knows. BAYSIDE COMMUNITY PRESBYTERI­AN CHURCH Bayside (2023 Old Arcata Road):

The Sunday service will be streamed on Facebook at 11a.m. and remain on the church Facebook page for a week.

UNITED CONGREGATI­ONAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH UCC/ DOC Eureka (900 Hodgson St.):

A pre-recorded service is streamed on Facebook and YouTube beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The theme for worship is “An Unknown God.” The Rev. Cindi Knox has recorded her sermon. Music by the Pitts family is also recorded. Prayer requests are taken live.
