‘Dairy Princess’ contest goes virtual in 2020

‘Six young women will compete for the title of “Dairy Princess” during a virtual District 1 Dairy Princess Contest. In addition to the crown and title, the new Dairy Princess and Alternate Dairy Princesses will receive scholarshi­p awards. The virtual event will be held June 4.

This year’s contestant­s are Megan Dixon and Taylor Woodbury of Fortuna, Hannah Haraldson and Lily Nord of Eureka, Cadence Lommori of Rio Dell and Brianna Rimmey of Ferndale.

Dixon is the daughter of Brennan and Sara Dixon of Fortuna. She is a junior at Fortuna Union High School where she serves as her class vice president. She is an active member of Fortuna FFA, having served as chapter sentinel, state conference voting delegate and vice president.

She earned her FFA State Degree and competes on the FFA Milk Quality and Dairy Foods judging team. She is a varsity cheerleade­r for football and basketball and is active in the Interact Club. She plans to attend a four-year university and pursue a degree in agricultur­e business with a minor in environmen­tal science.

Woodbury is the daughter of Derek and Carrie Woodbury of Fortuna. She is a junior at Fortuna Union High School. She is an active member of the Fortuna FFA Milk Quality and Dairy Foods judging team. She has served as FFA chapter reporter and scholarshi­p chair. She volunteers at community dinners in support of the Fortuna Fire Department and the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce. She plans to attend a four-year university in California to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing, specializi­ng in pediatrics and oncology.

Haraldson is the daughter of Joel and Elsa Haraldson of Eureka. She is a junior at Eureka High School. Active in the Eureka FFA, Haraldson earned her State FFA Degree and competes on the Dairy Products, Job Interview and Impromptu judging teams. She showed her cow-calf pair at the Humboldt County Fair and won Grand Champion Overall in Grade. She has served on the Redwood Acres Junior Fair Board and is a member of the Lake Earl Grange. She plans to attend junior college before transferri­ng to a four-year university as a double major in agricultur­e business and nursing with an emphasis in agricultur­al marketing. Her long-term career goal is to become a pediatric physician.

Nord is the daughter of Jay and Tracy Nord of Eureka. A junior at Eureka High School, Nord is active in the Eureka FFA and a member of the Milk Quality and Dairy Products judging team. She has served as chapter secretary and is currently the HumboldtDe­l Norte Sectional FFA secretary. She is also a junior counselor at Pal Camp, a program offered through the Discovery Museum. She plans to attend a four-year university and major in nursing.

Lommori is the daughter of Mike and Jamie Lommori of Rio Dell. She is a junior at Fortuna Union High School and currently serves as junior class president. She is active in the Fortuna FFA and has earned her State FFA Degree. She competes on the Dairy Products judging team and currently serves as FFA chapter secretary. She is the recipient of several agricultur­al awards, including the Agricultur­al Soil Chemistry Scholarshi­p. She is a varsity football and basketball cheerleade­r, a scholar athlete and is active in the Interact Club. She plans to attend a four-year university to pursue a degree in animal science, agricultur­e education or agricultur­al communicat­ions.

Rimmey is the daughter of Chris and Joann Rimmey of Ferndale. A senior at Ferndale High School, Rimmey is active in the Ferndale FFA and a member of the Dairy Cattle and Job Interview judging teams. She shows dairy heifers and received Outstandin­g Novice Dairy Showman at the Humboldt County Fair. She is involved in Associated Student Body leadership, vice president of her school’s Leo Club and serves as the student representa­tive to the Parent and Student Teacher Associatio­n. She is a scholar athlete and plays varsity soccer, softball and basketball, in addition to varsity cheer. She also volunteers for Betty Chinn, is a Beef Ambassador for the Humboldt County Cattlewome­n’s Associatio­n and gives her time at the Blocksburg ice cream social. She plans to attend the College of the Redwoods to study either animal science or agricultur­e business before transferri­ng to a four-year university.

The new Dairy Princess will represent the dairy industry in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. She and her alternates will participat­e in a mandatory training provided by the California Milk Advisory Board to receive profession­al developmen­t coaching.
