Two artists featured at Arcata Artisans
With all necessary health precautions in place, the Arcata Artisans Cooperative gallery will be opening for visitors again.
On display will be many new “made in isolation” works by local artists. June’s featured artists are serigraph artist John Wesa and photographer Jim Lowry.
Wesa maintains his printmaking studio in McKinleyville and his work can be found in many collections both locally and across the country.
Wesa says of his serigraph printmaking: “I still know that in order to pull it off, I need to be a mechanic, an electrician and most of all an alchemist. I love the interaction of shapes and colors. When things are going right, the image achieves a hypnotic vibrancy. It’s fun to see it seem to take its first breath and begin to live.”
Lowry says he used to paint with acrylics, but now he paints with pixels. Also, he claims that “with digital art, the potential for exploration is vast. The computer and digital camera combination gives me a feeling of freedom to do whatever comes to mind.”
Arcata Artisans Cooperative gallery is located at 883 H
St., Arcata. The gallery features work by its 25 diverse local artist members. Current temporary hours are Wednesday through
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 707-8259133 or go to www.arcataartisans.com.
