We’ve made a mistake

As time goes on it should become more and more apparent that the approach we have taken in coping with the COVID-19 virus has been a colossal and catastrophic mistake. Unfortunately, we have allowed so-called disease control experts such as Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx to dictate our economic policy in dealing with the virus. Those experts have been narrowly focused on the immediate health aspects of COVID-19 without regard to the long term health consequences, both physical and mental, of the economic collapse that has resulted from a virtual shutdown of our economy. Recent studies by Stanford University and the University of Southern California indicate that the reported cases of COVID-19 are only the tip of a very large iceberg. The vast majority of people who have been infected with the virus never even knew they had it. Their symptoms were either mild or non-existent. When the 2,500 inmates of one of our country’s penitentiaries were recently tested for the virus, 1,800 tested positive, yet only 120 (6.6%) had experienced any symptoms. These findings indicate how innocuous the virus is for the vast majority of people. Evidence suggests that children are the least affected of all.

If, from the very beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, we had simply isolated and protected those most vulnerable to the virus — the elderly and those with pre-existing health issues—and allowed the virus to run its’ course through the rest of the population, it would have taken a relatively short period of time to achieve so-called “herd immunity,” the point at which enough of us would have been infected and recovered from the virus that the virus would have lost its ability to spread. At that point, all of us, including the most vulnerable, would have been protected. Instead, we have chosen to extend the life of the pandemic as long as possible which will ensure that we have inflicted maximum damage to our economy and our future. The COVID-19 virus will ultimately run its course one way or another. The only question is how long the process will take. The longer it takes, the more damage it will have done to our economy and our way of life.
