Thanks to mayor, today, I am proud to live in Fortuna

I am writing in praise of Sue Long, mayor of Fortuna.

As a 40-year resident of Fortuna, I have found the town to be generally, as advertised, friendly, but not especially progressive.

In fact, I have attended some Fortuna City Council meetings in which one councilman in particular expressed regressive views, which I was shocked to hear, uttered aloud.

Had someone asked me whether the city would allow a Black Lives Matter rally to take place in Rohner Park, I would have said, “No way!” I would have been wrong. Mayor Long not only permitted the rally, but also spoke to the crowd herself in an emotional message expressing her support of the young people who had planned the gathering. Mayor Long, you have helped Fortuna show solidarity with today’s most important message: treat all people with respect and love.
