Consider ditching toilet paper altogether

-

I’m appalled to see the mountains of toilet paper stacked ceiling high in shopping carts as distressed shoppers line up to make sure they will have “go power” while we curfew in place.

As an aged environmentally conscious person, I gave up the use of toilet paper six years ago. I had a recurring nightmare of the last person on earth wiping their derriere with the last roll of toilet paper made from the last tree on earth. The plan was simple. Buy a diaper sprayer (you know, what we used on dirty cloth diapers) as a very effective hand-held bidet, 10 wash cloths cut into quarters and a covered trash can. The rest of the protocol is obvious. Absolutely none of my friends wants to hear this story. At best they say I use more water washing than them, to which I reply “way, way less water than it takes to manufacture toilet paper.”

Let’ s face it, toilet paper gets narrower and thinner so we buy more and more every year. I urge you to join me. Maybe we could even examine our use of paper diapers, wipes and tissue while we’re at it. Colleen Broderick, Eureka
