Outside noise has no influence on Giants

- By Kerry Crowley

It will take years before the baseball industry and Giants fans can properly judge how the organization fared this week, but there was plenty to learn from how president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and amateur scouting director Michael Holmes approached the 2020 MLB Draft.

With college and high school seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Giants’ front office had fewer opportunities to scout players in person and more time to talk about draft philosophy and carefully craft a strategy for this week’s event.

The Giants will have more opportunities to add to this year’s draft class next week when a postdraft signing period opens for amateur players, but the front office will be evaluated largely on the way the seven players the team selected perform over the next several years.
