Letters to the Editor Human sensitivity and insensitivity concerning
Shouldn’t it be obvious that the major cause of historical racism is human insensitivity? And shouldn’t it be obvious that sensitivity is a critical part of the solution? But then what is “sensitivity?”
Templeton prize-winner Martin Rees once stated: “The main aim of science is to take steps toward answering the big questions.” Shouldn’t the question “What is human sensitivity?” be the biggest question in the human sciences? And what steps are we taking toward answering it? And what support is given to the people who want to take steps toward answering that question?
The topic of human sensitivity and insensitivity deeply concerns me, especially considering how I plan on becoming the future founding president of the World Honor Society for Adult and Adolescent Victims and Survivors of Child Abuse.
Back in 2004 and 2007 after writing letters to the HSU Lumberjack I offered to give a presentation titled “Survivor Myth, Survivor Image, Survivor Reality; seeking the truth about child abuse victims.” None of the students and professors responded to my offer. That lack of response caused me to become very concerned about human sensitivity and insensitivity.
Over the past 10 years I have written several letters in the Times-Standard describing plans for creating and founding an International University of Religion, Empathy and Science. Twice I gave my P.O. box number (PO Box 6301, Eureka 95502) and none of the Times-Standard readers responded. And that lack of response caused me to become even more curious about human sensitivity and insensitivity.
