Letters to the editor Information on Eureka’s local ballot MeasureH Cartoonist’s take

-

It ismy honor to have served as Humboldt Bay Fire Chief since 2018 after over twenty years of service as a firefighter in Eureka. Humboldt Bay Fire has a rich and committed history built on over 150 years of service to the Community of Eureka, with a dedicated staff delivering exemplary fire and emergency services to 55,000 residents, businesses, and visitors.

Humboldt Bay Fire is an allrisk agency responding to approximately 8,000 calls for service annually and a wide variety of public safety services to Eureka families. We stand ready to help every hour of every day.

At Humboldt Bay Fire, we truly believewe are a vital part of the community and that the citizens and their fire department are inexorably linked. This has never been clearer in these unique times.

This is why the Eureka community needs tomake an informed decision aboutMeasure H — the proposed extension of Eureka’s previous voter-approved sales tax, at the 1.25 cent rate.

The Eureka City Council unanimously placedMeasure H on theNovember ballot after receiving feedback fromhundreds of residents on their quality of life priorities for Eureka. If renewed, Measure H would address, among other services, maintaining 911 fire and emergency medical response times, proactive community risk reduction efforts, and a welltrained adequately staffed firefighting force.

I encourage readers to become familiar with the local ballot, and be informed aboutMeasure H. For more information on Measure H, visit ci.eureka. ca.gov.
