Girl Scouts selling nuts, candy online this fall
Due to COVID-19 protocols, Girl Scouts will not be setting up in front of local stores this year for the annual November Nut and Candy Sale. Instead of public booths or door-to- door sales, Humboldt County Girl Scouts have created their own websites to reach customers who’d like to purchase Salsa Mix, Thin Mint Almonds, English Butter Toffee, Dark Chocolate Mint Penguins and more.
Fall product sales help local troops earn money for activities and service projects in addition to providing them an opportunity to help the environment and gain important entrepreneurial skills. This year, funds will aid local girls in having a global impact by helping an endangered species, the sloth.
Supporting Girl Scouts in the area is easy with a visit to an online shop locator, which will match a customer by zip code with a girl selling nuts and candy near them. For more information, go to https://www.gsnorcal.org/en/cookies/fall- take- action- program. html. Direct ship delivery for nuts and chocolates is available through Nov. 22.
Those who want to to support Girl Scouts without purchasing products can buy an $8 Care to Share Certificate, which guarantees that one can of nuts is donated to Humboldt/Del Norte food banks or the Coast Guard stations.
The annual cookie sale, which begins Jan. 23, will involve similar websites. Formore information about joining or volunteering with Girl Scouts, contact the Eureka office at 707- 443- 6641, ext. 3006.
