Soroptimist member has 100th birthday
Catherine “Kate” Burns celebrated her 100th birthday with members of Soroptimist International of Eureka recently.
Burns has been a member of the Eureka club for more than 50 years and has been a leader and mentor for hundreds of women in the community. She spent her working career as an educator with Eureka City Schools. Prior to her retirement, she was the principal at Worthington School in Eureka.

She went on to serve the Soroptimist Organization as Founder Region Governor and later as federation vice president. In this capacity, she helped direct programs for women in19 countries. She traveled extensively for the organization, including trips to South America, Japan and Turkey.
Burns has dedicated her life to Soroptimist for the past 50 years and has made friends all over the world.
Soroptimist of Eureka’s membership ranges from their 20s to Burns at 100, all dedicated to working together to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment in the community and throughout the world.
She celebrated her birthday with limited guests, and received a plethora of cards, flowers and gifts from around the world.
The Eureka Soroptimist club meets the first three Thursdays of the month at the Red Lion Hotel (during the pandemic they are meeting virtually through Zoom). Women who are seeking to “make a difference” are welcomed to attend these meetings.
