Parts of the county could hit 70 degrees this week

Humboldt County is expecting a mild week, a local meteorolog­ist said Sunday afternoon.

“It’s going to be mainly dry weather,” National Weather Service’s Jonathan Garner said.

He said a layer of stratus clouds will likely stick around through Tuesday.

Temperatur­es around Humboldt Bay are “going to be seasonable” with highs in the 50s during the day, overnight lows will be in the 40s, Garner said.

Southern Humboldt will see slightly warmer weather, with the potential to hit close to 70 degrees around mid-week. Eastern Humboldt will also be warm with Willow Creek hitting 70 degrees and high 60s this week.

Most of the county is considered “abnormally dry” by the U.S. Drought Monitor. A strip of southeaste­rn Humboldt County is in “moderate drought.”

There is no rain in the forecast, Garner said.

The marine forecast is calling for some gusty conditions early in the week.

“We’re expecting small craft winds starting Monday morning and those will last through Tuesday,” Garner said. “The northerly winds are going to be strongest over the outer waters. Close to the shore, it will mainly be some steep seas and not as much wind.”

Snow survey

The most recent snow survey in Klamath National Forest occurred April 1. The survey looks at the amounts of water available for agricultur­e, power generation, recreation and stream flow, according to a release from the U.S. Forest Service.
