Woodworking company to host craft fair, more

-

Humboldt Woodworks, a local woodworking company, has announced the grand unveiling of its newly converted mobile storefront at the corner of Broadway and West Grant Street in Eureka is set for May 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The converted horse trailer will be on display for the public to see during a small craft fair featuring woodworking from Humboldt Woodworks, fundraising for the “I Love Mom and Pop Shops” campaign and a selection of local artisans and vendors.

The new mobile storefront began its transformation in October 2019 as a Miley horse trailer built in Santa Rosa sometime in the late 1950s or ’60s. The project was originally scheduled to be completed and unveiled in the summer 2020, but the pandemic put all plans on hold.

“It has been a painstaking process with well over 1,600-man hours of work, but every time we see a new piece change or added, it makes it all worthwhile” said Jason Estrada, owner of Humboldt Woodworks, as he describes the tedious nature of the conversion. In the process of the conversion, the owner had to complete extensive rust repair, complete re-wiring of electrical system and some structural repairs. To add a little personality and community spirit, Humboldt Woodworks used many reclaimed materials from local buildings including redwood siding from the Eureka Rescue Mission and old-growth moldings salvaged from a remodel in Arcata and other reclaimed wood accumulated though the years.

Humboldt Woodworks started as a hobby in 2016. Through mostly trial and error and a few YouTube videos, Estrada was able to learn and grow to the point of officially launching the business in the 2019-2020 season. For more information, go to www.humboldtwoodworks.com or call 707440-9163.
