Canine calendar features dogs of Old Town

- The Times-Standard

As a holiday fundraiser, the Clarke Historical Museum is selling the “Dogs of Old Town Calendar,” featuring 12 months of friendly Old Town Eureka dogs and businesses.

Calendars are available at the Clarke Museum (240 E St.), Just My Type Letterpress (235 F St.) and the Art Center Frame Shop (616 Second St.). All these locations are in Eureka.

“With the pandemic, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of dogs being adopted. Humboldt County is very much part of this trend, and we have experienced that in Old Town with the addition of multiple new friendly canines in the neighborhood,” said Executive Director/Curator Katie Buesch. “As Humboldt County’s local history museum, we’re working to document history as it is being made, so this calendar, besides being fun, is also a project in documenting the pandemic’s impacts on Old Town. Rather than focus on the really difficult parts of

the last two years, the calendar will be focusing on one of the brighter sides of the pandemic — more dogs finding happy homes and gainful work, and the resilient businesses that exist in Old Town.”

Monica Creegan at the

Art Center Frame Shop came up with the calendar idea. Marlee Mansfield served as the photographer and the graphic design artist was Andy Linde. Sponsor Alicia Abell helped make this project a reality.

“Thanks are also due to

the adorable dogs and their kind owners for allowing us to share their dogs and shops in the calendar,” Buesch said.
