Cervantes has elections experience
I’m writing this letter concerning the office called ClerkRecorder and Registrar of Voters, but which perhaps should be called Registrar of Voters and Clerk-Recorder. Not to downplay the importance of any public service, but the functions under the Registrar really do call for top billing. They cover all administration functions for local elections, and speaking as someone who has volunteered to help work elections for the last five years this calls for dedication and expertise. Elections in Humboldt County are a real logistical achievement, covering a widely-disbursed population with a diversity of ballot access issues, language, culture, mobility, technological awareness; you name it we’ve got it. This is accomplished out of a very small office coordinating an army of volunteers for every election. All of this on top of the fact that for elections, there’s no do-overs. If you find out you’ve made some errors you can only hope that results were not systemically affected by them, you can’t call everyone in to vote again.
This is why I’ve come to feel strongly that Juan Pablo Cervantes is the best candidate for the office, and by far. He’s the only one of the field with elections administration experience. This isn’t the only feather in Juan Pablo’s cap, his academic and community service credentials are also exemplary. But this is really a job we’ll want someone who knows it on their way in, and on that count Juan Pablo Cervantes is undoubtedly the right choice.
