Soroptimists name ‘Girls of the Month’
Soroptimist International of Eel River Valley recently honored Kyla Albee and Hailey Jade Mead as its “Girls of the Month.”
Albee was recognized for her achievements in athletics and Mead was honored for her achievements in the fine arts.
Albee, daughter of Daniel and Terra Albee, is a senior at Ferndale High School. Throughout high school, she has played volleyball, basketball and soccer. In her junior year, she was named Co-MVP for Little 4 volleyball. She was named Honored Athlete of the Week for basketball. Albee has received an All-Tourney awards in basketball and volleyball.
Albee has also been on the High Honor Roll for throughout high school. She raises lambs and steers for 4-H.
After graduation, she plans to go to a community college to study agriculture with a focus on equine ranch management. While attending college, Albee plans to continue playing basketball and volleyball.
Mead, daughter of Randall Mead and Betty Owen Mead, is a senior at East High School. She has a passion for designing costumes and making jewelry. In addition, she styles wigs, has made angel wings and also a 3-foottall mushroom hat for a costume. Mead does custom clothing, including prom dresses. She choreographed a school performance and does special effects makeup (SFX). She is currently spinning a sun mask.
Mead is chief of the First Nations Club and is involved with the Bear River Women and Children Empowerment group.
Mead is going to school to learn the Wiyot language. After graduation, she plans to attend CR then transfer to Cal Poly Humboldt. She wants to pursue a career designing special effects makeup for films.
