Artists sought for upcoming `Freedom Festival'

-

KEET-TV and its partners will present the Tubman-Douglass Freedom Festival at the Eureka Library on March 25.

This event is in recognition of the work Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass accomplished through their fight for freedom and the legacy of Black Americans.

KEET is seeking performing and visual artists to participate in the festival. Artwork and performance art submissions should address this question, “What does liberation look like to me and within my community?” Artists can also focus on the qualities of Tubman and Douglass, either visually or in words, and how they have inspired them.

There is one microphone for speakers, spoken word artists, poets and acoustic performers. There is a small honorarium available so artists must register with KEET if they want to perform.

Visual art submission rules:

• One entry per person.

• Maximum size of artwork, including any border material, is 11 x 17 inches.

• Artwork should be intended for a general, allages audience.

• Any medium may be used, as long as artwork is light enough to be pushpinned to a wall for display.

• Artist name, home address, phone number, grade number and name of school (if a student) are required on the back of entry.

• Do not frame work, but allow room for push-pins on the edges of your artwork.

To submit artwork, bring it to the Eureka Library Adult Reference Desk at 1313 Third St, Eureka.

The deadline for art submissions is March 22.

The deadline to sign up to perform is March 24.
