KEET program seeks young reader for show

-

In partnership with the Humboldt County Office of Education, Humboldt County Library and Humboldt Literacy Project, KEET-TV is looking for one kindergarten to fifthgrade child from the community who loves to read to be on “CAMP TV,” a PBS show for kids. The selected local reader will be in the “Tell Me a Story” section of “CAMP TV” this summer.

KEET-TV was one of 10 PBS stations selected to find young readers in the area to try out for the show. Auditions will be held to find a reader. Families are asked to film their child reading a picture book aloud for the audition video. Videos up to three minutes in length will be accepted. For families that don’t have the means or time to film their child, KEET is holding “Audition Day “at the Humboldt County Library in Eureka on April 1, with registration required.

Parents or guardians must submit the permission slip and video to submissions@keet.org. Deadline for submissions is April 4. The local winner will be announced April 7.

KEET will provide the selected book for the “Tell Me a Story” segment to the winner to practice reading. Filming will take place April 8-15.

Since its launch, “CAMP TV” has focused on playful learning for students in grades K-5. Like real camp, each day (episode) has a fun theme such as Sports Day, Career Day, Space Day and Mismatched Sock Day. Campers are greeted by an enthusiastic head counselor, who introduces the daily camp theme and chaperones viewers from one educational activity to the next. Visit KEET. org for a link to the show.*
