Marsh tour

The Redwood Region Audubon Society for a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

People attending should bring binoculars and meet trip leader Michael Morris at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy easy-to-walk trails and an opportunit­y to view a diverse range of overwinter­ing shorebirds and soon-to-be nesting resident songbirds.

Tour the marsh

Friends of the Arcata Marsh is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.

Those who are attending will meet leader Barbara Reisman at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpreti­ve Center on South G Street for a 90-minute, rain-or-shine walk focusing on marsh plants and/ or ecology.

Wetlands workday

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will host a “a Wigi Wetlands Volunteer Workday” from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Volunteers are needed to help create birdfriend­ly native habitats and restore a section of the bay trail by removing invasive plants and trash. The trail section is behind the Bayshore Mall, and volunteers will meet in the parking lot directly behind Walmart.

Birding walk

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will hold a Southern Humboldt birding walk Saturday.

This walk includes two to three miles of gentle walking through riparian, grassland and mixed hardwood forests.

White-crowned and golden-crowned sparrows abound and Lincoln’s sparrows, northern harriers and Wilson’s snipe might be observed, as well as year-round residents like jays, towhees, woodpecker­s and several raptor species.

Everyone will meet at the Tooby Park parking lot in Garbervill­e. This Southern Humboldt trip occurs the fourth Saturday of every month. Call Ann at 707296-8720 for more informatio­n..

Birding tour

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will offer a free guided birding tour at the Wigi Wetlands portion of the Humboldt Bay Trail from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Everyone will meet trip leader Hal Genger at the Bayshore Mall parking lot behind Kohl’s Department store in Eureka for a stroll along the trail to look at birds, plants and restoratio­n progress.

Women’s walk

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will host a “Women and Girls’ Walk” with trip leader Denise Seeger at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Loleta.

Everyone will meet at the Visitor Center to walk the Shorebird Loop Trail to hear and hopefully see, hundreds, if not thousands, of Aleutian cackling geese lift off their nighttime roosts. There will also be an opportunit­y to see waterfowl, shorebirds, secretive marsh birds and more.

Pancakes here

The Trinidad Lions Club will hold a pancake breakfast and book sale from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Trinidad School.

The menu includes pancakes, eggs and a choice of ham or sausage or biscuits and gravy plus eggs. Beverages are also included. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.

Books will also be for sale. Children’s books are 25 cents, paperbacks 50 cents and hardbacks $1.

Time to dance

Dances with live bands are from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9.

Weekly bingo

Bingo games are played Tuesdays at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games start at 6. A snack bar is available.

THA fundraiser

On April 1, the Timber Heritage Associatio­n will host the “Roundhouse Rendezvous,” its annual dinner auction.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Sequoia Conference Center in Eureka. Tickets are $60 each.

The Roundhouse Rendezvous supports the Timber Heritage Associatio­n in its efforts to create a major tourist attraction with a regional timber history museum and an excursion train around Humboldt Bay.
