Over $50,000 has been raised for the family of Michael Davis, a 25-year-old man who was fatally shot in McKinleyville on July 3. The funds are to pay for funeral and memorial expenses, and to help Davis' wife Jordyn rebuild her life after the recent loss of her husband. The page notes that Davis died just before their second wedding anniversary and the two had recently purchased their first home.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office noted in a press release he was known by the person who allegedly shot him. Jasen Dwain Coley, 26, was arrested on suspicions of killing Davis after a multiday search by authorities.

“Mikey was killed by a childhood friend. Mikey supported this friend until the end, always encouraging him to get back on his feet and seek the treatment he required. A witness reports Mikey even smiled at this friend moments before the gun became visible,” the GoFundMe page reads.

In an update, his brother Daniel Davis who organized the page, wrote that they are taking this incredible generosity as a sign of how many lives Davis touched, and thanked those who had supported the fundraiser. He wrote that this is a beautiful reminder of how important community is during times like this. Daniel Davis did not respond to an interview request by the Times-Standard's print deadline.

“Mikey was a gentle and beautiful soul, whom so many were thankful to know,” he wrote, adding that Michael touched many lives with his kindness and explosive laughter, which was “always on a hair trigger.” He wrote that Michael was the most wholesome, compassionate, and loyal person he knew. The page notes that Michael was a financial advisor and on track to be a certified financial planner, describing this time as reaching many milestones in his life.

The page notes a celebration of life is to be held Aug. 6 at the River Lodge in Fortuna, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with memorabilia and an ice cream bar. According to the page, the event will be open house style, so “drop in whenever you can”.
