Preserve Humboldt County's cannabis legacy
I felt compelled to express my opinion of why you should VOTE NO on Measure A at all costs to our community. This bill is a gaslighting masterpiece produced by disingenuous special interests who, though they don't realize it, want to turn Humboldt County into a west coast Appalachia. First logging, then fishing and now they want to kill legal cannabis by taking away tax paying farmers property rights?
Please be informed, Measure A will enact punitive, anti-business regulations that further handcuff legal, tax paying, cannabis farmers from any hope of commercial sustainability. Make no mistake, ultimately the fallout from passage will decimate Humboldt's legal industry and worldwide legacy as a cannabis mecca and travel destination for visitors from around the world. Here's what we'll get… less farming, less commercial activity, less tax revenue, less employment, and less tourists moving through our local businesses. We'll get more rural poverty, more lawsuits, more boarded storefronts and more criminality. What will likely fill the void of legal cannabis when it's impossible to operate legally and survive? Illegal cannabis of course, or harmful drugs like meth, opiates, more addiction.
Humboldt's cannabis legacy is worthy of preserving! It's historical and supports local community. Always has! Our farm employs 6 local workers each season. While struggling to be profitable, over the years we have spent more than $500,000 at local businesses and we want to keep doing so despite all the headwinds we face. No on A is the only way! — James N. Young, Myers Flat
