Concert planned

Westhaven Center for the Arts will present the Bayou Swami's in concert Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Trinidad Town Hall.

The show features music of Louisiana and originals by Jeff Landen, guitar/vocals, with Randle Lundberg, button accordions, fiddle and vocals; Kate Koemel, T-fer, rubboard and vocals; Marla Joy, bass; and Tommy Fitzmauric­e, drums.

Marsh tour

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Bring binoculars and meet trip leader Gary Friedrichs­en at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy easy-to-walk trails, beautiful views of Humboldt Bay and a diverse range of overwinter­ing birds, including ducks, shorebirds, herons, and egrets, raptors and songbirds. Also, keep an eye out for otters and otter signs as they frequent the marsh ponds.

Birding tour

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will offer a free guided birding tour along the Eureka Waterfront Trail Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m., with leader Ralph Bucher.

This relatively urban trail offers the potential to observe species abundance and diversity compared to many more remote locations. Keep an eye and ear out for cormorants, loons, grebes and even otters diving for their meals. This walk is on a flat, paved trail that is wheelchair accessible. Dance party

A dance featuring live music and “a great floor” takes place Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9.

FRT auditions

Ferndale Repertory Theatre will hold open auditions on Monday, as well as Feb. 22, for its upcoming production of the musical, “The Prom.” This show was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Book and lyrics are by Chad Beguelin and music is by Matthew Sklar.

FRT will be casting 20plus performers ages 15 and up in this production. Experience­d or firsttime performers who enjoy singing, dancing and acting are invited to audition. For more informatio­n, go to https://www. ferndalere­p.org/auditions.

Seed exchange

The Humboldt Permacultu­re Guild will hold its annual “Seed, Plant & Scion Exchange” March 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Arcata Community Center, 321 Dr. MLK Jr. Parkway, Arcata.

There will be free seeds and plants, as well as vendors, booths, workshops and a raffle. There will also be a scion exchange with rootstock for sale.

The suggested entry fee is sliding scale, up to $10, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Everyone is encouraged to bring seeds, plants and scion to share.
