Former NFL player Vontae Davis found dead at age 35

-

Former Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis was found dead in his South Florida home on Monday, but police say no foul play is suspected.

Vontae was the brother of Vernon Davis who played with the San Francisco 49ers between 2006-2015.

Police in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Davie said they responded to a medical emergency at Davis' home Monday morning, but the 35-year-old was dead when officers arrived. No cause of death has been released pending autopsy results. Police said in a statement that the investigation is still active.

Davis played for 10 seasons in the NFL after being drafted 25th overall by the Dolphins in 2009 out of Illinois.

“We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of former Dolphins CB Vontae Davis and extend our deepest condolences to his family & loved ones during this difficult time,” the Dolphins wrote in a statement on social media.

NCAA SAYS A 3-POINT LINE WAS DRAWN 9 INCHES SHORT AT PORTLAND REGIONAL >> The NCAA said one of the 3-point lines on the court used for the women's basketball regionals at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, was about 9 inches short of regulation, a mistake by the contractor that makes the courts used throughout March Madness.

The line was corrected, the NCAA said. UConn and USC were scheduled to play the last Elite Eight game to determine next week's Final Four later Monday on that court.

The NCAA uses Connor Sports to supply and install the courts. The NCAA said the marking used to draw the line at the top of the arc in the center of the court was marked too short. It did not identify the contractor that made the mistake.

Four games already had been been played over two days with the mismatched 3-point lines.

GERMANY WITHDRAWS JERSEYS BECAUSE OF NAZI SYMBOLISM >> The German soccer federation and Adidas have stopped the sale of Germany jerseys with the number 44 because of a resemblance to the logo of the Nazi Party's notorious SS paramilitary units.

Adidas on Monday stopped offering the personalization of jerseys with names and numbers, and the federation halted the delivery of jerseys with the number 44 from its own online shop.

The federation said it was looking for an alternative design for the number 4 together with its partner, 11teamsports.

“None of the parties involved saw any proximity to Nazi symbolism in the development process of the jersey design,” the federation said on X, formerly Twitter.
