Grange breakfast

A “Where Were You in '92” community breakfast will take place Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Humboldt Grange No. 501, 5845 Humboldt Hill Road, Eureka.

Thirty-two years ago, the North Coast was rocked by a series of earthquakes on April 25 and 26. On April 27, 1992, the North Coast was in mass cleanup mode. Many were caught unprepared.

As such, members of the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group and the California State Office of Emergency Services will be on hand to answer questions and to help everyone better prepare themselves and their families for the next disaster. The new Shaky Ground magazine will also be available.

Marsh tour

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Bring binoculars and meet trip leader Michael Morris at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy easy-to-walk trails. Many resident birds may be singing, nesting and showing signs of breeding activity at this time. Shorebirds will likely be abundant.

Wetlands workday

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a “Wigi Wetlands Volunteer Workday” on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to help create bird-friendly native habitats and restore a section of the bay trail by removing invasive plants and trash. The trail section is located behind the Bayshore Mall, and volunteers will meet in the parking lot directly behind Walmart. The Audubon Society will provide tools, gloves and packaged snacks. Volunteers should bring their own drinking water. Contact Jeremy Cashen at jeremy.cashen@yahoo.com or 214-605-7368 for more information.

Birding walk

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will host a Southern Humboldt birding walk on Saturday.

This walk includes two to three miles of gentle walking through riparian, grassland and mixed hardwood forests.

Everyone will meet at the Tooby Park parking lot located one mile west of Garberville on Sprowl Creek Road. This trip occurs on the fourth Saturday of every month, generally starts around 8:30 a.m., and the leaders vary by month. Call Ann at 707-296-8720 for the correct start time or with any other questions.

Marsh tour

Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.

Everyone will meet leader Paul Johnson at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street for this 90-minute, rain-or-shine event.

After discussing the workings of the unique wastewater treatment plant, Johnson will focus on the small, little-known creatures living along the trail (galls, caterpillars, bugs, etc.) that many people overlook while out for a walk. For more information, call 707-826-2359.

Pancake breakfast

The Trinidad Lions Club will hold a pancake breakfast Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Trinidad School.

The menu includes pancakes, sausage or ham and eggs, or biscuits and gravy and eggs, plus a beverage. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.

A book sale will also be taking place, with prices ranging from 25 cents to $1. Proceeds will benefit youth, school and community projects.
