Horse-Friendly Tennessee Lodge

Trail Rider - - HOT ON THE TRAIL -

Big South Fork Lodge is located in Jamestown, Tenn., 1½ hours from Knoxville. The lodge is open year-round; best seasons to visit are fall, winter, and spring.

From the lodge, you can ride across the street right into the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, an equestrian paradise that offers more than 200 miles of well-maintained, horse-friendly trails. On the trail, you’ll enjoy the scenic views, rock formations, rivers, and waterfalls. Many of the trails are wide and sandy.

Stay in one of the lodge’s large motel rooms or in the Rail Road Cabin, which sleeps seven. If you’d rather camp in your living-quarters trailer, pull into one of the facility’s recreational-vehicle sites, situated within your horse’s paddock. These sites feature a barn with 12-foot-by-12-foot covered stalls and a covered saddling area. Or, stay in a primitive campsite — there are no electrical hookups, but a shower house is available.
