LUTHER, OKLAHOMA
During the Jim Crow era, Black travelers on Route 66 stopped for gas at the familyowned Threatt Filling Station (threattfilling station.org). Built in 1915, it eventually grew to include a farm, a store, a bar and music venue, and even a Negro League baseball field. The station closed in the 1970s—and last year, the site was named one of the Most Endangered Historic Places in the country. Renovations began in early 2022 to add a museum and interpretive center.
