Grace I. Lan­dis, 95, for­mally of Kennewick, WA, passed away peace­fully on Satur­day, Septem­ber 22,

2018. Born Au­gust 24,

1924 to Sa­muel and Aure­lia Miner, her youth was spent on a farm in Clar­ian, Iowa. As an ac­tive mem­ber in 4-H, she won a trip to Wash­ing­ton D.C. and New York City on an ex­change pro­gram to pro­mote bet­ter un­der­stand­ing of youth from dif­fer­ent back­grounds. While work­ing in Seattle, Grace met ser­vice­man, Frank Lan­dis, and were mar­ried in 1946 after the war. They set­tled in the Tri-Cities where they both re­turned to school to be­come teach­ers. Grace taught at Edi­son El­e­men­tary from 1961 till 1985.

Grace was a mem­ber of Kennewick First United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Re­tired Teach­ers of Kennewick. Dur­ing re­tire­ment she en­joyed vol­un­teer­ing for lit­er­acy pro­grams.

Grace will best be re­mem­bered for her sweet­ness, her love of teach­ing, love for her fam­ily, and her quite sense of ad­ven­tured through her many world trav­els with friends and fam­ily. Some of her fam­ily’s fa­vorite mem­o­ries in­clude her learn­ing to buggy board at 75 in Florida and snor­kel­ing at 85 in Hawaii.

Mrs. Lan­dis is sur­vived by her daugh­ter, Peggy Sch­lat­ter (Ken), of Olympia, WA; grand­daugh­ter, Kris­tan Sch­lat­ter, of Ki­hei, HI; grand­daugh­ter, Stephanie DeMars (Dustin) of Van­cou­ver, WA; brother, Howard Miner of De Monies, IA and numer­ous nieces and nephew.

She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Frank Lan­dis; son, Grant Lan­dis; son, Kent Lan­dis; daugh­ter, Sally Lan­dis; brother, Glenn Miner.

Ser­vice is planned for 2:00p.m. on Novem­ber 16th at the First United Methodist Church in Kennewick.
