Mat­tel stock surged af­ter the maker of Bar­bie and Uno an­nounced two deals that could lift sales and win more at­ten­tion for its games and toys. In one, the com­pany se­cured rights to make dolls, col­lectible fig­ures and games fea­tur­ing the South Korean boy band BTS. BTS, which stands for Bang­tan Sonyeon­dan or “Be­yond the Scene,” be­came the first K-Pop group to reach the No. 1 po­si­tion on the Bill­board Top 200 last year. In the sec­ond deal, Mat­tel and Warner Bros. will pro­duce a live-ac­tion Bar­bie film star­ring Os­car-nom­i­nated ac­tress Mar­got Rob­bie of “Sui­cide Squad.” It’s the first live-ac­tion film based on the doll, which hit shelves in 1959.
